Frequently Asked Questions

What is the interest rate charged on the loan?

Interest is paid monthly on the loan balance at a fixed interest rate of 1.5% per month.  The original principal balance is paid off at the end of the loan term.

What percentage of MY ARTWORK'S appraised value can I borrow against?

We lend at a 40% LTV.

Do you lend on all types of art?

No. Quality and liquidity are our top priorities. We only lend on high-quality art from established artists so all works must have a history of successful auctions or other proven track record in the secondary market.  Further, for any artwork to be considered as collateral for a loan, we require detailed information regarding provenance, authenticity, condition and proof of free and clear ownership.  Loan closing will be subject to complete inspection and approval of the artwork by Skaya Capital’s experts.

Do you check my credit score?

No. We do not check your credit.  We provide non-recourse loans, with no personal guarantee, where the art secures the loan.

When is my monthly interest payment due?

Your interest payment is due monthly on the calendar day of funding.  For example, if your loan is initially funded on the 10th of the month, your payment is due each month on the 10th.  Your final payment will include the interest for that month and the original principal balance of the loan.

How do you determine the value of my art?

The valuation is based on current fair market value as determined by our in-house underwriters and our network of independent experts and appraisers.

Do you take possession of my artwork during the term of the loan?

Yes. The artwork will be securely transported and stored at our local partner facility until the loan is repaid.

IS MY ART SECURE DURING THE LOAN?

Keeping your art safe is of utmost importance to us. During the term of the loan, your art is stored in our climate-controlled partner facility with 24-hour security and video surveillance.  We recommend that you maintain insurance on your art to cover your interests during this period but it is not mandatory.  However, as a requirement of loan closing, insurance is obtained for the sole benefit of Skaya Capital to cover the collateral from the time it leaves your possession until your loan is fully repaid.

What are your fees?

There are no origination or application fees. Shipping, storage, appraisal and insurance are arranged by us and the costs are paid by you through a deduction from the loan proceeds at closing.

When wILL I GET MY ART BACK?

We only hold your art until the indebtedness is fully paid.  At that time, we transport the art back to you or you may collect your art from our secure location.

can i pay off my loan early?

No. Prepayment of the loan is not permitted.

What if I default on the loan?

In the unfortunate event that you default on the loan, your pledged artwork will be relinquished by you in payment to Skaya Capital.  A default has no effect on your credit.
